What are the best strategies for thinning hair?

When your hair is starting to thin and there is noticeable spots on your head what is the best strategy to take? I've heard hair extensions are too heavy and will most likely show. The only other thought I can think of is a wig. If so, what are the best type of wigs (anything specific) to get and from where. What are the best strategies for thinning hair?
There are also supplements you can take to help nourish hair. Silica is the main ingredient for most hair regrowth supplements. Horsetail is an herb that contains high amounts of silica, and is relatively inexpensive. Nature's Way and Nature's Answer are good brands for herbal supplements. I usually order my supplements online which cuts down on costs. Make sure you are also eating properly, and getting enough nutrients in your diet. Glutathione Injections are also good for improving overall health. But, they are relatively expensive and are hard to find. They often have to be obtained my a doctor, and I did find one online site located in the US that carries them for $100-$200, it was www.trimnutrition.com (I am not affiliated with them). They are not registered by the BBB yet but they are founded by Dr. Agin author of Superfoods for Dummies, and have several locations on Florida. What are the best strategies for thinning hair?

also taking iron is important for hair not falling out.

and start researching homeopathic remedies on the web might help.

if all else fails then a hair peice to cover the spots or if many of them then cut the hair short and wear a wig.
